FAQ
Why does the app ask for Contacts access on first launch? How do I grant or revoke it?
Bearoster needs to read and update contact information in macOS Contacts to manage birthdays and tags. The system shows a permission prompt the first time you use the relevant feature. You can enable or disable Bearoster's access anytime in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Contacts.
Will my data be uploaded to the cloud?
No. Bearoster runs entirely on your Mac. Your contacts, tags, and edit history never leave this Mac.
Where do birthdays get written?
They are written back to macOS Contacts. After you save in Bearoster, open the built-in Contacts app and you will see the birthday on the matching contact.
Which calendars are supported?
Gregorian, Chinese lunar, Hebrew, and Islamic calendars.
How do I use voice input, and why is the microphone permission needed?
Tap the voice input button in the birthday editor and say the date (for example, "March fifteenth"), and the app will turn it into the correct date. This feature needs Microphone and Speech Recognition access, which is used only when you start it. No audio is captured when it is not in use.
How do I completely delete local data created by the app?
Quit Bearoster, then delete the app. For the sandboxed version, local data lives in ~/Library/Containers/com.bearoster.app and is removed along with the app. Contact data is managed by the macOS Contacts app and is not removed when you delete Bearoster.
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 14 or later.
